BRIEF REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT, MARY ROBINSON, ON INFORMAL MEETING WITH COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE, 16 MAY, 1995

Distinguished Members of the Court of First Instance

-         I am pleased to have this opportunity of meeting with you today.

-         The creation of the Court of First Instance by virtue of the Single European Act was an important and necessary improvement in the division and rationalisation of the activities of the European Court of Justice.

-         Your workload is demanding and requires from you a very significant input of time and intellectual resources.  You have responded well to these demands with enthusiasm and effectiveness.

-         Your commitment ensures that the Court of First Instance fulfils an indispensable function in the Union's institutional and legal order.

-         I wish you success in your future work.
