Statement regarding President Higgins’ second official visit to Britain

President Michael D. Higgins will make his second official visit to London from Friday 22nd June to Sunday, 24th June.

The President will depart from Dublin airport on Friday evening and be met on arrival in London by the Irish Ambassador, Mr Bobby McDonagh.

On Saturday morning President Higgins accompanied by his wife Sabina will travel to the GAA Emerald Grounds in Ruislip.   They will be met there by Mr Brendie Brien, President of the GAA Provincial Council of Britain and Mr Noel O’Sullivan, Chairperson of the London GAA.  They will also meet GAA players, GAA representatives in Britain, members of the local Irish community and will have the opportunity to see under 18 players from across Britain playing hurling, camogie and football.

The President and Mrs Higgins will then go to Hampstead Theatre in Swiss Cottage where they will attend the official opening of DruidMurphy, three plays telling the story of Irish emigration by Tom Murphy.  The President and Sabina will attend the performances of Conversations on a Homecoming, A Whistle in the Dark and Famine and will meet with Garry Hynes, Artistic Director of Galway-based Druid Theatre, playwright Tom Murphy as well as members of the cast and production crew.

The President will depart London on Sunday morning.
