“I warmly congratulate Ms Emily O’Reilly on her appointment today as the next European Ombudsman. The fact that Ms O’Reilly was elected to this important post by members of the European Parliament, representing citizens from all member states of the European Union, reflects the very high regard in which she is held across Europe.
As President of Ireland, I thank Ms O’Reilly for her committed service as Irish Ombudsman and Information Commissioner over the last decade and wish her and her family well as she prepares to take up her new post in the autumn.”
