Date: Fri 14th Mar, 2014 | 14:19

President Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina, have a full day of public engagements this St. Patrick’s Day.

The President and Sabina will attend mass in Dublin’s St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral on Monday morning where they will be met on arrival by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Canon Damian O’Reilly.

After mass the President and Sabina will view the capital’s St. Patrick’s Day parade from the grand stand on O’Connell Street. They will be met there by Chief Executive Officer of the St. Patrick’s Day Festival, Susan Kirby, and Chairman of the Festival, David Harvey.

Following the Parade, the President will spend some time in Croke Park where the AIB GAA All Ireland Senior Club Championship Finals are being held.

In the evening the President and Sabina will host a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin for over 100 guests who were involved in the flood relief efforts around the country. The guests will include representatives of fourteen Town, City and County Councils, Eircom, ESB and Iarnród Éireann. The Shannon Vale Céilí Band will provide entertainment.

The President has sent a St. Patrick’s Day message to Irish people at home and worldwide, through Ireland’s network of embassies and missions abroad.
