In his inaugural address President Higgins expressed his wish to engage with young people as part of a series of seminars during his Presidency. In 2012 he called on young people to ‘Take Charge of Change’ and invited them to share their vision for Ireland’s future with him, through the "Being Young and Irish" initiative.

In his speech at the Being Young and Irish Garden Party, the President paid tribute to the contribution made by young people to Irish society.
