President attends a Bilateral meeting with Ho Chi Minh City’s leadership

President Michael D. Higgins met Mr Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, at the Reunification Palace this morning. 

The President highlighted the growing interest from Ireland in cooperation in education and in the agri-food, agri-tech and wider ICT sectors with Vietnam. The President also commended the positive contribution being made by the small Irish business community to economic and social development in Ho Chi Minh City, especially the Irish Business Association in Vietnam.

President Michael D. Higgins and Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong also discussed global issues such as climate change, the impact of which is a matter of particular concern in the Mekong Delta and the south of Vietnam.
