President attends the Royal Canal 200th anniversary celebrations

On 26 May 1817 the Royal Canal, running from Dublin to the Shannon, was officially opened.
200 years later, on 27 May 2017, President Michael D. Higgins was the guest of honour at an event in Clondra, Co. Longford commemorating the opening. The event was organised by the Royal Canal Amenity Group and Waterways Ireland.
