President Higgins launched the Bealtaine celebrations on the Hill of Uisneach on 6 May.

The fire lighting ceremony at Bealtaine (May time) marks the ancient tradition celebrating the coming of summer. The lighting of the Uisneach fire was the signal for igniting fires on many hills across the whole island.
