President attends the centenary commemoration ceremony of the sinking of the Lusitania

President Higgins laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Ireland at an event marking the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Lusitania.

The ship, which was en route to Liverpool, sank off the Old Head of Kinsale, with the loss of 1,198 lives, when it was struck by a torpedo.
